NALBOH works in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others to promote the National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP). NPHPSP is an assessment tool used to measure infrastructure and capacity of public health systems. The governance assessment tool, used primarily by boards of health, assists governing bodies in assessing their capacity to provide oversight of the Ten Essential Public Health Services. To learn more about participating in the assessment process, please click on the National Public Health Performance Standards link above. NALBOH also supports
public health accreditation and works closely with the Public Health Accreditation
Board (PHAB). Boards of health will play a crucial role in assisting local
public health jurisdictions in preparing for accreditation in 2011. To
learn more about how you can assist your local public health districts
in the accreditation process, please click on the accreditation link above. Learn more about how these two innovative programs are related. (pdf) PHAB announces Accreditation Specialist Position Opening.

Report Released
A new report from the Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) shows that many public health programs across the nation are at serious risk in the current budget crisis. The report finds “serious gaps” in the nation’s ability to protect citizens against health threats. With the current state of the economy, these gaps are only going to get bigger, causing public health programs and jobs to be cut. Further cuts will put more Americans at risk for illnesses and diseases that could be prevented and, in the end, save health care costs.View the Report. _______________________________________________
