Sharon Hampson

Past President

Sharon Hampson has been actively involved with Public Health since her election in 2002 to the La Crosse County (Wisconsin) Board, when she became a member of the Health and Human Services Board. She served as vice-chair and is now chair of that committee. Sharon was elected to the NALBOH West Great Lakes Regional Director position in 2002. She served in that capacity for two terms, then ran for president-elect. She is currently serving her term as President of NALBOH.

While on the NALBOH Board of Directors, Sharon has been chair of the Tobacco Control and Chronic Disease Committee, Program Committee, and the Membership Committee. Sharon has also been active in her state association, WALHDAB, the Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards. She served as president in the 2006-07 term and as past-president the following year. She has also been an active member of the Public Affairs Committee on WALHDAB, a legislative group that works with a lobbyist to promote public health initiatives in Wisconsin.

Sharon has received two awards for her work in WALHDAB. In October, 2005, she was named the Outstanding Western Region Board of Health Member; in May, 2006, she was the recipient of the WALHDAB Board of Health Member of the Year award.

Before her involvement in local government, Sharon had 23 years experience in public schools as a teacher, counselor, and psychologist. She has a B.A. in Elementary and Special Education and an M.A. in School Counseling and Psychology. Sharon is active in her community as an environmentalist and political activist. She is the mother of two sons, John (24) and Christopher (22) and his wife, Stacy. She is a widow; her husband died in June, 2002.
