Yolanda Rosheal Savage-Narva earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a certification in Gerontology from Tougaloo College and a Master of Science degree in Education from Jackson State University, both in Mississippi. Her career began in Gerontology as the Director of Activities for an Adult Day Health Center. In 2001, Yolanda was accepted into a fellowship program with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Public Health Prevention Specialist (PHPS). PHPS is a 3-year training program for mid-level public health professionals. She spent 1 year at CDC and 2 years in a field assignment at Indian Health Service, National Epidemiology Program in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Yolanda has worked with many tribal communities throughout the United States implementing the National Public Health Performance Standards Program and assisting tribes in developing strategic plans and quality improvement activities.
Yolanda joined NALBOH in October 2007 as the Project Director for Performance Standards and Accreditation. Her professional interests include: public health system research, public health policy development, and developing the science-base for public health. Yolanda’s extra-curricular activities include: exercising, traveling, and bird-watching. Yolanda is married to Dr. Andrew Narva and has a beautiful son named Miles.
