Marita Sommer was born in Washington State. She moved to California to attend Fresno Pacific University where she majored in Political Science and Intercultural Studies. During her last semester of undergraduate school, Marita moved to Washington, DC, in order to intern at the Center for International Trade and Security and attend the American Studies Program. During this time, she realized the security a strong public health system can bring to a country and to a community. Marita is currently finishing her Thesis towards a Master’s in Public Health at American Public University.

In her spare time, Marita likes to travel, hike, cook, read, and play board games.
