Board of Directors - 2012

Carolyn Wysocki
New England Regional Director
Carolyn Wysocki is an active advocate for justice, public health, and the
environment. After retiring as a psychologist from the Connecticut
Department of Mental Health and her private practice, she continued to
serve in leadership positions in both the public and private sector at the
local, state, and national levels.
Under her 6 year leadership as chairperson, the Central Connecticut Health
District was the first to implement the Governance Performance
Assessment Tool and used it as a quality performance improvement
measurement. Carolyn had guided the initial Strategic Plan development,
updated and expanded personnel policies, developed a board orientation
process/manual, and a Performance Appraisal System for evaluating
Directors of Health based on the 10 Essential Functions of Public Health
and Competencies.
This is Carolyn’s sixth year on the NALBOH Board where she is a member
of the Environmental Health and Performance Standards/Accreditation subcommittees.
She was a site visitor for the PHAB Accreditation Beta Testing and is
spearheading the formation of a state association for local boards of health in Connecticut.
She was a member of the Connecticut Environmental Public
Health-Tracking Consortium, which produced a report for tracking the
linkages between environmental exposures and health; served on the
Connecticut Asthma Task Force, the Governor’s Public Health
Regionalization Council, and the Commissioners Council on Local Public
Health.
As a person with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and asthma, Carolyn
brings her personal experiences in understanding the linkages between
our environment and our health and serves as President of ECHO
(Ecological Health Organization, Inc).
Recognized for her environmental activism she was presented the “Berlin
Citizen of the Year” and recently the Connecticut Department of Energy,
Environment “Green Circle Award” and Federation of Garden Club Award
for her efforts to help her hometown become greener, safer, and healthier.
Carolyn has been a long time champion for the establishment and
sustainability of a “Berlin Green Council” which was recently established
by ordinance and to which she was appointed.
As a determined steward of the earth, her mission is to help make a safer
and healthier world for her grandchildren, and the prevention of diseases.
Her slogan is “Prevention is My Intention.”
