VISION:

to represent the grassroots foundation of public health in America, actively engaging and serving the public by empowering boards of health through education and training.  NALBOH will continue to expand its influence on public health policy, increase resource allocation, and improve the clarity and volume of its national voice for our members.

MISSION:

to prepare and strengthen boards of health, empowering them to promote and protect the health of their communities through education, training, and technical assistance.

NALBOH has been engaged in establishing a significant voice for local boards of health on matters of national public health policy. Our satellite office in Washington, DC has allowed us to have a permanent presence with other national public health organizations while maintaining our grassroots with our main office in Bowling Green, OH.

NALBOH works closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), Association of State and Territorial Local Health Liaison Officials (ASTLHLO), American Public Health Association (APHA), Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH), Public Health Foundation (PHF), the United States Office of the Surgeon General, Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights (ANR), the National Center for Tobacco-Free Kids, and the Task Force on Community Services.

While continuing to strive for improvement, NALBOH provides the following on an ongoing basis:

  • Sponsors an annual national education and training conference for local board of health members Publishes and distributes a quarterly NewsBrief to all local boards of healthMaintains a traveling exhibit
  • Maintains an up-to-date database of contact information for all local boards of health
  • Develops and disseminates information and educational programs specifically designed for local board of health members including a train-the-trainer programProvides advocate support for strengthening local boards of healthProvides technical assistance to existing boards of health and to developing boards and state associationsAttends annual state and national public health meetings providing information on NALBOH and local boards of health through presentations, panels, exhibiting, etc.
  • Maintains the NALBOH website <www.nalboh.org>
