Orienting Local Boards of Health to Population Health Strategies: A Training Resource
Join Phyllis Meadows, PhD, MSN, RN, Associate Dean for Practice, Office of Public Health Practice, University of Michigan School of Public Health
and Phoebe Goldberg, MPH, CHES, Program Manager, Michigan Public Health Training Center, Office of Public Health Practice, University of Michigan School of Public Health during their pre-conference session at the NALBOH Annual Conference. Boards of health bringing together leaders from across disciplines is one of their greatest strengths. For this reason, however, it is necessary to ensure that new members receive training in foundational public health concepts. Doing so will enable the board to most effectively draw upon the expertise of its members to impact population health strategies and outcomes. The Pre-Conference session is included in your Full Conference registration!
Public Health Law Research Program Expansion
You may recognize the Public Health Law Research Program through NALBOH Collaborations on past webinars. The program is now expanding! Since 2009, the Public Health Law Research program has been making the case for laws that improve health. This summer, the program will begin its next chapter – advancing health through law and research as the Center for Public Health Law Research.
Based at Temple University, the Center for Public Health Law Research will work to eliminate barriers to health, and build capacity to improve health and wellbeing.
The Center will carry on much of the work started by the RWJF-funded Public Health Law Research program: mapping important health laws and policies and creating empirical policy data for evaluation available at LawAtlas.org, investigating the effects of laws and legal levers on health and equity, creating practical knowledge and tools for public health practitioners, and translating scientific evidence for stakeholders who need it.
The PHLR program looks forward to continue working with NALBOH members to ensure boards of health have the evidence and training they need to get the job done! We encourage you to continue following us on Twitter and Facebook, and at http://phlr.org.
