Is it really Spring?

It is important to regularly check out the NALBOH website If you are a member then you should be receiving the monthly E-news and you will receive the first quarterly NALBOH NewsBrief publication you have been requesting.  “Please publish the NALBOH News Brief magazine”. Strongly requested at the annual meeting of SALBOH leaders at 2014 annual conference in Milwaukee, WI. Watch for its arrival in the beginning of April!

It is my goal to follow our three point Focus 2015, to date: Actions in Progress

Focus: Mission Driven: To strengthen and improve public health governance.

Actions: We are publishing the Six Functions of Governance on the website and incorporating the functions at every opportunity. The webinar introduced Feb. 25 included the functions of resource stewardship and legal authority. You will find the Six Functions on the web under Resources, governance. We continue to do board work for the organization on scheduled conference calls with face to face meetings in the spring and at the annual conference. We are meeting as a NALBOH board for a business meeting and strategic planning work. April 12-15 the board will be in Omaha, NE for the face to face meeting. We continue to work to strengthen your organization.

Focus: Relevant to boards:

Actions: We are offering you the opportunity to participate in the new Four-part Webinar: Public Health Law 101, launched Feb.25 and continues March 25, April 22, and May 27. We are partnering with The Network for Public Health Law and Public Health Law Research Program. There is still time to register on line to participate.

President-elect, Ken Johnson, is chairing the Annual NALBOH Conference planning and the theme and offerings are exciting: Leading the Race in Board Governance. Mark your calendar for Aug.5-7, Louisville, Kentucky. We want you with us. New conference information will be available soon - as well as in your Quarterly NewsBrief!

The NALBOH staff are working to increase the website opportunities for news stories from your own Boards of Health. We want you to share your successes and challenges. Keep us informed with news of your active and interesting boards of health. PHAB and accreditation information on the NALBOH website will be on-going. Watch for the opportunity to chat with others about the accreditation adventures. We will update you with information on future events. We will share your state specific meetings and events if you contact  See what is happening in other states.

Focus: Sustainability:

Actions: We are increasing members, renewing memberships and signing up new member boards. Please help by checking on the status of your board. We depend on the membership income as a source of financial stability. The Annual Conference is the other important source of revenue for the operations of NALBOH. We are enthusiastically focusing on membership and the annual conference. Please make your membership and conference plans to help sustain NALBOH.

Leadership succession is important to the future of NALBOH.  Past President, John Rodwick and his Governance Committee are working on the nomination process for the election of 2016 NALBOH Board of Directors. Contact NALBOH if you have questions or suggestions.

Finally, we continue our efforts to assure the financial stability of NALBOH. We have moved from “cautiously optimistic” to “favorably comfortable”. We plan and operate with a tight budget, but we are energetically moving forward knowing the importance of our mission of NALBOH.
