Pitt County Health Department Kicks Off 2017 National Public Health Week and 100th Year Anniversary Celebrations on Sunday


(Pitt County) – Communities will come together April 2nd – 8th to celebrate and support public health during the 2017 National Public Health Week observance. Numerous events centered around this year’s theme of “Making the U.S. the Healthiest Nation in One Generation by 2030”are being implemented nationwide with guidance from the American Public Health Association. Pitt County Health Department will join in this celebration combined with community events to commemorate our Health Department’s 100th Year Anniversary.
The 25th annual “Making Pitt’s Babies Fit” Maternity Fair will kick off the week on Sunday, April 2nd from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Greenville Convention Center, located at 303 SW Greenville Blvd. The purpose of this event is to link community members with resources designed to improve birth outcomes and prevent infant deaths. Admission is free and the community is invited to attend to learn more about pregnancy planning, recommendations for a healthy pregnancy and childrearing.
A community panel, “ Pitt County Responds to the County Health Rankings” will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 9:00 am -11:30 am at Eastern Area Health Education Center, located at 2600 W. Arlington Blvd., Greenville. Guest speakers will represent Access East, Pitt County Health Department, East Carolina University, Pitt Partners for Health, Vidant Health and Vidant Medical Center. Community members are invited to attend this free event by registering at www.surveymonkey.com/r/2017NPHW_Panel_Registration .
The community is cordially invited to attend a Community Reception on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (floating) at Pitt County Health Department, located at 201 Government Circle, Greenville. This celebration will commemorate Pitt County Health Department’s 100th Year Anniversary of protecting, promoting and assuring the health of all people in the community. This free event will feature displays and light refreshments. No registration is required.
Public health employees will participate in a Facebook selfie contest with the purpose of demonstrating healthy activities to the community. Like us on Facebook and follow the hashtag, #PittHealth100, to learn more and spread the word about the importance of public health in our community.
