Governance In Action - Board Orientation Program
Share |

NALBOH is pleased to have partnered with the Michigan Public Health Training Center, housed at the University of Michigan School of Public Health Office of Public Health Practice, on a collaboration with the Michigan Public Health Institute to present a training series for boards of health. The purpose of this course is to equip board of health members with a shared understanding of public health and with potential strategies for supporting the work of local public health agencies and their leadership. The training series features seven 10-15 minute online modules accompanied by suggested resources for further exploration. Topics cover an introduction to the field of public health and the functions of a board of health.

The program package includes:

  • Seven video modules
  • Accompanying reference and suggested resource documents for each module
  • An online evaluation survey for each module
  • A final evaluation

This training series is meant to be broadly applicable for boards of health across the country. Boards of health vary in structure and responsibility and it is expected that framing the delivery of this training within discussion of the local context will make it more meaningful.  The program includes the following modules:

Module 1 – Public Health: A Primer – Part A

Module 2 – Public Health: A Primer – Part B

Module 3 – Operating as a Board of Health

Module 4 – Financing Public Health

Module 5 – Contributing to Health Equity

Module 6 – Partnerships to Improve Health Outcomes

Module 7 – Supporting Population Health through Policy and Advocacy
