The goals of this DHHS agency are to: "support improvements in health outcomes;
strengthen quality measurements and improvements; and to identify strategies

The site contains information on issues of mental health; rural health; markets;
healthcare costs; elderly issues; and other policy related information. Information
is also available in Spanish.
Agency
for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)
The mission of the Agency is "to prevent exposure and adverse human health
effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure to hazardous
substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other sources of pollution
present in the environment."

The CDC "provides a system of health surveillance to monitor and prevent

for Medicare & Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA)
The Center (formerly known as the Health Care Financing Administration or HCFA)
administers Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
The site contains a wealth of information on statistics and data, local information,
research, laws and regulations and public affairs.
Food
and Drug Administration (FDA)
The FDA "assures the safety of foods and cosmetics, and the safety and
efficacy of pharmaceuticals, biological products and medical devices."
Health
Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
"The HRSA directs national health programs that improve the nation's health
by assuring equitable access to comprehensive, quality health care for all."
Their programs include: improving the lives of persons with HIV/AIDS, providing
primary healthcare to medically under-served people, serving women and children
through State programs and training health personnel for jobs in under-served
communities.
Indian
Health Service (IHS)
The goal of the IHS is "to ensure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable
personal and public health services are available and accessible to all American
Indian and Alaska Native people." The web site of the IHS contains information

Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA)
SAMHSA is "comprised of three Centers that carry out the agency's mission

resulting from substance abuse and mental illness." The site contains links

The Office of the Secretary (OS) contains links to the various programs and
