American
Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)
AAHPERD is an alliance of six national associations and six district associations
and is designed to provide members with a comprehensive and coordinated array
of resources, support, and programs to help practitioners improve their skills
and so further the health and well-being of the American public. The six national
associations are: the American Association for Health Education (AAHE), the
National Dance Association (NDA), American Association for Active Lifestyles
and Fitness (AAALF), the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS),
the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE)and the Research
Consortium.
American
School Health Association (ASHA)
The ASHA is an organization of school professionals who are "committed
to safeguarding the health of school-aged children." From their web page,
one can gather information on their publications, conferences, membership information,
and resolutions on specific school health issues.
Association
of Schools of Public Health (ASPH)
This national organization represents deans, faculty and students of the accredited
schools of public health. The site contains links to funding opportunities and
public health links.
Center
for the Advancement of Health
The Center is a nonprofit organization that seeks to integrate biology, behavior,
psychology, and social context into the debate regarding health and medical
treatment. It seeks to engage disparate groups into the debate surrounding health
promotion and medical treatment. It has a link to funding opportunities, their
journal, other sites, and publications.
Comprehensive
Health Education Foundation (CHEF)
"CHEF is committed to what health education can do for individuals and
communities." Their site contains links to their projects, the National
Prevention Institute, prevention resources and news and updates. Prevention
resources contains links to reports and other sites regarding various topics
(i.e. HIV/AIDS, tobacco, peer-helping, etc.)
Go Ask Alice
"The mission of Go Ask Alice! is to provide factual, in-depth, straightforward,
and nonjudgmental information to assist readers' decision making about their
physical, sexual, emotional, and spiritual health. 'Alice' answers questions
about relationships; sexuality; sexual health; emotional health; fitness; nutrition;
alcohol, nicotine and other drugs; and general health." While the site
is geared towards teenagers, it may provide a useful resource to find out about
current practices and concerns of teens and young adults.

Education Professional Resources (HEPR)
This site for health educators is designed so they can have access to information
which may be useful for professional practice. The categories of interest to
HEPR include: health-related organization, listservs & other mailing lists,
national credentialing agencies, professional associations, calendars and resources
for health education.
Interactive
Health Tutorials
The tutorials provided on the Medline site are interactive resources from the
Patient Education Institute. Using animated graphics each tutorial explains
a procedure or condition in easy-to-read language. You can also listen to the
tutorial. NOTE: These tutorials require a special Flash plug-in, version 4 or
above.
National
Association of Advisors for the Health Professions
NAAHP is an organization for health profession adivsors at colleges and universities.
NAAHP coordinates the activities and efforts of four independent regional associations
so that health professions advisors can function together and speak with one voice.
National
Environmental Education & Training Foundation (NEETF)
NEETF is a private, non-profit organization that plays a unique role in the
environmental education and training field. They develop and support environmental
learning programs to meet social goals and "greener," more profitable
business. Their mission is to bring about a stronger economic, ecological, and
societal future through environmental learning.
Society
for Public Health Education (SOPHE)
SOPHE is a professional association comprised of health education professionals
and students. Their mission is to "provide leadership to the profession
of health education and health promotion; to contribute to the health of all
people through advances in health education theory and research; excellence
in health education practice, and the promotion of public policies conducive
to health." Their site contains links to publications and journals, continuing
education opportunities, their annual meeting, and links to resources of interest
to their membership.
Society
of State Directors of Health and Physical Education and Recreation (SSDHPER)
Professional association of members who supervise and coordinate programs in
health, physical education and related fields within state departments of education."
The site contains links to conferences, school health, a newsletter, and links
to state education agencies, national organization and federal agencies.
