Research and Quality - Spanish
This is the Spanish resource for this DHHS agency. Its goals are to: "support
improvement in health outcomes; strengthen quality measurements and improvement;
and to identify strategies to improve access, foster appropriate use and reduce
unnecessary expenditures." The site contains information on issues of mental
health; rural health; markets; healthcare costs; elderly issues; and other policy
related information.
American
Lung Association
This organization works against lung disease, with special emphasis
on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health. The site provides links
to data and statistics on lung related diseases. The site also has information
in Spanish.
Bright
Futures
Bright Futures is dedicated to the principle that every child deserves to be
healthy and that optimal health involves a trusting relationship between the
health professional, the child, the family, and the community as partners in
health practice. Special topic areas include: nutrition, oral health, mental
health, physical activity and families. They also have resources in Spanish.
Cancer
Prevention & Control
This Spanish language website from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
covers cancer prevention and control topics.
Centro Nacional de
Salud Ambiental (NCEH)
This is a Spanish language site of the National Center for Environmental
Health (NCEH). The NCEH works "to prevent illness, disability, and death
from interactions between people and the environment." Their site contains
information on their programs, publications, and a version for kids.
Consumer
Product Safety Commission
The CPSC is an independent Federal regulatory agency that "help keep American
families safe by reducing the risk of injury or death from consumer products."
There is information for kids, an opportunity to report unsafe products, information
on recalls, businesses, a library and information for consumers in English and
in Spanish.
Environmental
Defense - Spanish
Environmental Defense works to link "science, economics, and law to create
innovative, equitable, and cost-effective solutions to the most urgent environmental
problems." This link will take you to the Spanish language version of the
site.
Environmental Research
Foundation (ERF)
The ERF's goal is "to provide understandable scientific information about
the influence of toxic substances on human health and the environment."
The site contains links to an online weekly update, publications, organizations,
related sites, a library and a calendar. The site is also available in Spanish.
Family
Health International (FHI)
FHI "works to improve reproductive and family health around the world through
biomedical and social science research, innovative health service delivery interventions,
training and information programs." Some of their program areas include:
family planning, HIV/AIDS and STDs, Women's Health and infectious disease. Their
page is accessible in French,
Spanish, Russian
and Arabic.
Health
Consumer Alliance
"HCA is a partnership of consumer assistance programs operated by community-based
legal services organizations. Our common mission is to help low-income people
obtain essential health care." This site has consumer resources, advocate
resources, publication, information on children & youths, managed care,
disability, and pages in numerous foreign languages (e.g. Chinese, Farsi, Korean,
Spanish). Although this program focuses on California, it may provide a useful
tool for other states.

Poll Search
Health Poll Search is a searchable archive of public opinion questions on health
issues that allows users to know what Americans think about health issues, as
well as what Americans have thought about health issues over time. Health Poll
Search is the result of a partnership between the Kaiser Family Foundation and
The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at the University of Connecticut.
The Roper Center houses an archive of more than 350,000 public opinion questions
dating back to 1935. The
Health Poll Search archive covers 29 topics and more than 300 subtopics, and holds
more than 60,000 questions on health issues from health care surveys that have
included questions on health. These questions provide information on public perceptions
of HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, health policy and health reform, Medicare and
Medicaid, women's health, the uninsured, minority health, and children's health.
Response percentages and source information are provided for all questions.
HIV
Insite: Gateway to AIDS Knowledge
Sponsored by the University of California San Francisco, HIV Insite: Gateway
to AIDS Knowledge provides HIV/AIDS resources. The site contains links to medical
treatments, prevention, social/policy, statistics, maps, topics and links. The
site is also available in Spanish.
International
Healthy Cities Foundation (IHCF)
These pages are available in five languages--English, French, Japanese,
Portuguese, and Spanish. The mission of the IHCF is to "facilitate linkages
among people, issues and resources in order to support the development of Healthy
Cities initiatives." The IHCF will link people, organizations, and networks
currently working to advance Healthy City goals and provide linkages with others
dealing with significant and related areas of work." The Foundation site
contains links to their programs as well as a searchable database for information
on Healthy Cities.
National
Alliance for Hispanic Health
This organization focuses on health and human services needs of the Hispanic
community. While the entire site is not available in Spanish, there are some
Spanish links available. Overall, the site contains information on various issues,
including: cancer, HIV/AIDS, tobacco, and youth and family policy as well as
funding leads and web links. Web links contain extensive listing of companies,
organizations, and topics.
National
Women's Health Information Center
This web site, from the Office
on Women's Health in the Department of Health
and Human Services, "provides a gateway to the vast array of Federal
and other women's health information resources." The site contains information
on their various programs, including Minority
Health Information, information in Spanish,
and their programs and initiatives.
Society
for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT)
The Society's mission is "to stimulate the generation of new knowledge
concerning nicotine in all its manifestations -- from molecular to societal."
They offer a newsletter, message board, abstracts to their journal (Nicotine
& Tobacco Research), a training directory, publications, event information
and other resources. The information is also available in German and French.
New
York Online Access to Health (NOAH)
This site allows you to select resources in Spanish or English. Originally
established as a responsible and authoritative bilingual health information
site, NOAH has continued to support their original mission while expanding health
topics, and provider menus. The web site offers a subject index, word search,
information on patients rights and physician information.
WHO
Library and Information Networks for Knowledge (WHOLink)
This is the World Health Organization's virtual library. Their library
catalogue is searchable and they also list health issues by topics. These topic
pages provide health resources in French and Spanish.
