American Legacy Foundation
Established as a result of the Master Settlement Agreement with the tobacco industry, the American Legacy Foundation's purposes are to conduct a comprehensive, coordinated program of public education and study, and to fund "cutting edge research and marketing programs that tell the truth about tobacco use." The site contains an overview of the Foundation, an information center, links to research, education & programs, and ways to speak out against tobacco. The also sponsor the site truth which offers the unvarnished truth about Big Tobacco companies and the effects of smoking on the human body.

Cancer Research Foundation of America
This organization promotes the health and well-being of women and families by using objective, research-based information to encourage new, more effective programs and policies. Site contains information for links, men, women and children's health.

Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (CHEF)
"CHEF is committed to what health education can do for individuals and communities." Their site contains links to their projects, the National Prevention Institute, prevention resources and news and updates. Prevention resources contains links to reports and other sites regarding various topics (i.e. HIV/AIDS, tobacco, peer-helping, etc.)

Fetzer Institute
"The Fetzer Institute is a nonprofit private operating foundation that supports research, education, and service programs exploring the integral relationships among body, mind, and spirit." Their programs include information on health and medicine.

This list of foundations and grant resources is available from Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. The list of foundations, agencies and other organizations funding public health research is extensive and may be helpful to those searching for funding opportunities.

Foundation Center
The Foundation Center is a clearinghouse for grant and policy information. Its mission is "to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects."

Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF)
Developers of the Women's Cancer Network, the GCF is an organization that raises funds to support philanthropic programs benefiting women who have or who are at risk for developing a gynecologic cancer. Their site contains information on the Network, publications, and the latest news on gynecologic cancers.

International Healthy Cities Foundation (IHCF)
These pages are available in five languages--English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. The mission of the IHCF is to "facilitate linkages among people, issues and resources in order to support the development of Healthy Cities initiatives." The IHCF will link people, organizations, and networks currently working to advance Healthy City goals and provide linkages with others dealing with significant and related areas of work." The Foundation site contains links to their programs as well as a searchable database for information on Healthy Cities.

John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
The MacArthur Foundation sponsors programs on Human and Community Development. These programs focus on four themes: Access to Economic Opportunity, Building Community Capacity, Child and Youth Development, and Mental Health. Their Internet site also contains links for Human and Community Development web sites.

Kaiser Family Foundation
The Henry J. Kaiser Foundation is an "independent philanthropy focusing on the major health care issues facing the nation. It is a source of facts and analysis for policy makers, the media, the health care community and the general public." The site contains information on Medicaid, Medicare, health policy, HIV/AIDS, media partnerships & studies, the uninsured, state health facts, a daily health policy report and women's health policy.

Kellogg Foundation
The W. K. Kellogg Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to apply knowledge to solve the problems of people. The site contains links to their areas of interest, which include: health, philanthropy and volunteerism, food systems and rural development, youth and education/higher education, leadership, information systems and technology, social and economic community development, and capitalizing on diversity.

Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Foundation's mission is "to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment." While the Foundation provides information on grants & funding; a discussion group, and links to Breast Cancer Info, they also sponsor Race for the Cure, sell clothing with the pink ribbon and celebrate survivors of breast cancer and resources in Spanish.

Milbank Memorial Fund
"The Milbank Memorial Fund is an endowed national foundation that supports nonpartisan analysis, study, research and communication on significant issues in health policy."

National Science Foundation
NSF is "committed to the environment by developing standards, by providing education and by providing third-party conformity assessment services while representing the interest of all stakeholders." The site contains links to online newsletter, NSF publications, information for consumers, standards, and a searchable database of NSF certified products.

Pew Charitable Trusts
The Pew Charitable Trusts sponsor research on the environment, public policy, education, health & human services, culture, and religion. The site has links to grant information and their program reports.

Public Health Foundation (PHF)
The PHF is "dedicated to achieving health communities through research, training and technical assistance. We assist health agencies and other community health system organizations by providing objective information in areas such as health improvement planning, understanding and using data, and improving performance." Their site has links to applied research, distance learning opportunities, technical assistance, and other links to federal, state, and local health partners, the private sector and searchable databases.

Rand Corporation
Rand's mission is "to improve policy and decision making through research and analysis." They provide guidance, develop innovative solutions, and serve the public's interest by focusing their research in areas of health, national security, labor and population, children, and science and technology. Their site contains links to Rand's programs, publications, and business analysis.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
RWJF works to "improve the health and health care of all Americans, by encouraging healthier living and the conditions that promote better health to promoting positive changes in the way health care is delivered in this country." The site contains links to RWJF's grant opportunities, publications, a resource center, and media information.
