The Academy resulted for the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services
Research merging. "The Academy provides a professional home and technical
assistance resource for researchers and policy professionals. Committed to the
vision of improving health and health care by generating new knowledge and moving
knowledge into action, the Academy seeks to stimulate the development, understanding,
and use of the best available health services research and health policy information
by public and private decision makers." The site contains information on
their state coverage initiatives, networking for rural health, publications
and other resources.

This JHU site contains information on HIV/AIDS including links to: publications,
epidemiology, prevention, treatment, managed care issues, and resources.

Children's Partnership
The Children's Partnership is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization

on health and medicine.

"The Institute for Research on Poverty is a national, university-based
center for research into the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality
in the United States." The "poverty related resources" contains
links to various issues including health and insurance, children and families,
education, urban issues, etc.

Nonprofit research firm "specializing in long-term forecasting,

Family Foundation
The Henry J. Kaiser Foundation is an "independent philanthropy
focusing on the major health care issues facing the nation. It is a source of
facts and analysis for policy makers, the media, the health care community and
the general public." The site contains information on Medicaid, Medicare,
health policy, HIV/AIDS, media partnerships & studies, the uninsured, state
health facts, a daily health policy report and women's health policy.

Created in 1863 by and act of Congress, the National Academies were established
to advise on "the scientific issues that frequently pervade policy decisions."
The Academies consists of The National
Academy of Sciences, the National Academy
of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine,
and the National Research Council.

Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP)
The NCCP's mission is to "identify and promote strategies that reduce the
number of young children living in poverty in the United States, and to improve
the life chances of the million of children under age six who are growing up
poor." The site contains media resources, child poverty facts, state &
local information, research on childcare and early education, family support,
welfare reform and links to publications.

Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (NCEMCH)
A research center of
Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute, NCEMCH "provides national
leadership to the maternal and child health community in three key areas--program
development, policy analysis and education, and state-of-the-art knowledge--to
improve the health and well-being of the nation's children and families."
The NCEMCH site offers information on programs & policies, data & research
tools and publications. They also have links to the National
Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center.

The NCRR supports NIH investigators in four areas: Clinical Research, Biomedical
Technology, Comparative Medicine, and Research Infrastructure as a way to enable
advances in biomedical research.

The NCWO "is a bipartisan network of more than one hundred women's
organization, which together represent more than 6 million members. Our member

groups. We work together to advocate change on many issues of importance to

education, job training, women's health and reproductive health, as well as

Rand's mission is "to improve policy and decision making through
research and analysis." They provide guidance, develop innovative solutions,
and serve the public's interest by focusing their research in areas of health,
national security, labor and population, children, and science and technology.

"Research!America's mission is to make medical and health research a much
higher national priority. Research!America is a national not-for-profit, membership-supported,
public education and advocacy alliance.." Their site contains links to
advocacy, research, programs, public opinion, talking points and hot links.

Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
RWJF works to "improve the health and health care of all Americans,
by encouraging healthier living and the conditions that promote better health
to promoting positive changes in the way health care is delivered in this country."
The site contains links to RWJF's grant opportunities, publications, a resource
center, and media information.
Rural
Policy Research Institute (RUPRI)
"The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) conducts policy-relevant research
and facilitates public dialogue to assist policy makers in understanding the
rural impacts of public policies and programs." Their site contains links
to programs, publications, and rural health resources.
Tobacco
Etiology Research Network (TERN)
TERN promotes health by "reducing the harm caused by substance abuse,"
especially tobacco. The Network is a collaborative and intense effort for scientists
and researchers to work on tobacco and other substance abuse issues in a transdisciplinary
way.
