Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy
The Academy resulted for the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research merging. "The Academy provides a professional home and technical assistance resource for researchers and policy professionals. Committed to the vision of improving health and health care by generating new knowledge and moving knowledge into action, the Academy seeks to stimulate the development, understanding, and use of the best available health services research and health policy information by public and private decision makers." The site contains information on their state coverage initiatives, networking for rural health, publications and other resources.

AIDS Information and Treatments from Johns Hopkins University
This JHU site contains information on HIV/AIDS including links to: publications, epidemiology, prevention, treatment, managed care issues, and resources.

Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI)
AGI "protects the reproductive choices of all women and men in the United States and throughout the world." The web site contains links to information on prevention & contraception; STDs, law & public policy; youth issues and sexual behavior.

The Children's Partnership
The Children's Partnership is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to inform leaders and the public about the needs of America's 70 million children, and to engage them in ways that benefit children. The Partnership undertakes research and policy analysis, publishes reports and multimedia materials, and forges new alliances among parents, policy makers and the private sector to achieve tangible gains for children. The Partnership focuses particular attention on identifying new trends and emerging issues that will affect large numbers of America's children and on providing early analysis and strategies for action." Current programs include: Children and Technology, Children and Health Care Reform, and Building a Constituency for Children.

Fetzer Institute
"The Fetzer Institute is a nonprofit private operating foundation that supports research, education, and service programs exploring the integral relationships among body, mind, and spirit." Their programs include information on health and medicine.

Institute for Research on Poverty
"The Institute for Research on Poverty is a national, university-based center for research into the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality in the United States." The "poverty related resources" contains links to various issues including health and insurance, children and families, education, urban issues, etc.

Institute for the Future
Nonprofit research firm "specializing in long-term forecasting, alternative futures scenarios, and the impact of new products and next-generation technologies on society and business." One area of research area is health and health care.

Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR)
This policy research organization is dedicated to informing and stimulating the debate on public policy issues of critical important to women and their families. IWPR focuses on issues of poverty and welfare, employment and earnings, work and family issues, the economic and social aspects of health car and domestic violence, and women's civic and political participation.

Institute of Medicine
"The mission of the Institute of Medicine is to advance and disseminate scientific knowledge to improve human health." Their site contains links to reports, ongoing studies, upcoming events, programs and links to related sites.

Karmanos Cancer Institute
A "comprehensive cancer center", the Barbara Ann Karmanos Institute is one of the nation's leading cancer research, treatment and education centers.

Kaiser Family Foundation
The Henry J. Kaiser Foundation is an "independent philanthropy focusing on the major health care issues facing the nation. It is a source of facts and analysis for policy makers, the media, the health care community and the general public." The site contains information on Medicaid, Medicare, health policy, HIV/AIDS, media partnerships & studies, the uninsured, state health facts, a daily health policy report and women's health policy.

National Academies
Created in 1863 by and act of Congress, the National Academies were established to advise on "the scientific issues that frequently pervade policy decisions." The Academies consists of The National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council.

National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP)
The NCCP's mission is to "identify and promote strategies that reduce the number of young children living in poverty in the United States, and to improve the life chances of the million of children under age six who are growing up poor." The site contains media resources, child poverty facts, state & local information, research on childcare and early education, family support, welfare reform and links to publications.

National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (NCEMCH)
A research center of Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute, NCEMCH "provides national leadership to the maternal and child health community in three key areas--program development, policy analysis and education, and state-of-the-art knowledge--to improve the health and well-being of the nation's children and families." The NCEMCH site offers information on programs & policies, data & research tools and publications. They also have links to the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center.

National Center for Research Resources (NCRR)
The NCRR supports NIH investigators in four areas: Clinical Research, Biomedical Technology, Comparative Medicine, and Research Infrastructure as a way to enable advances in biomedical research.

National Council of Women's Organizations
The NCWO "is a bipartisan network of more than one hundred women's organization, which together represent more than 6 million members. Our member organizations include grassroots, research, service, media and legal advocacy groups. We work together to advocate change on many issues of importance to women, including equal employment opportunity, economic equity, media equality, education, job training, women's health and reproductive health, as well as the specific concerns of mid-life and older women, girls and young women, women of color, business and professional women, homemakers and retired women." They focus on many issues, including women's health. Their web site contains links to the issues and information about their projects and organization.

New England Research Institutes (NERI)
NERI is "one of the nation's leading health research organization." The programs of the Institute include aging; children and families; women's health, men's health and health services research.

Rand Corporation
Rand's mission is "to improve policy and decision making through research and analysis." They provide guidance, develop innovative solutions, and serve the public's interest by focusing their research in areas of health, national security, labor and population, children, and science and technology. Their site contains links to Rand's programs, publications, and business analysis.

Research!America
"Research!America's mission is to make medical and health research a much higher national priority. Research!America is a national not-for-profit, membership-supported, public education and advocacy alliance.." Their site contains links to advocacy, research, programs, public opinion, talking points and hot links.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
RWJF works to "improve the health and health care of all Americans, by encouraging healthier living and the conditions that promote better health to promoting positive changes in the way health care is delivered in this country." The site contains links to RWJF's grant opportunities, publications, a resource center, and media information.

Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI)
"The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) conducts policy-relevant research and facilitates public dialogue to assist policy makers in understanding the rural impacts of public policies and programs." Their site contains links to programs, publications, and rural health resources.

Tobacco Etiology Research Network (TERN)
TERN promotes health by "reducing the harm caused by substance abuse," especially tobacco. The Network is a collaborative and intense effort for scientists and researchers to work on tobacco and other substance abuse issues in a transdisciplinary way.
