for Healthier Cities and Communities
The Coalition is a partnership of entities from the public, private
and nonprofit sectors whose mission is to "stimulate and encourage collaborative
action and efficient use of resources from multiple sectors and community systems."
The site has information on their agenda, a states network, community forums,
a library resource and news.

Health Status Indicators Web Site
This site is the result of a HRSA funded collaboration among numerous public
health organizations. The purpose of this site is to provide health information
for each county. While the information is compiled from existing reports, the
site provides the information together and compares it to peer counties. This
is a great site for communities to assess their health status and how they compare
to other counties.

Tool Box
The Community Tool Box "is intended for everyone addressing issues
in local communities. The core of the Tool Box is the 'how-to tools.' These
how-to sections use simple, friendly language to explain how to do the different
tasks necessary for community health and development. For instance, there are
sections on leadership, strategic planning, community assessment, advocacy,
grant writing and evaluation. Each section includes a description of the task,
advantages of doing it, step-by-step guidelines, examples, checklists of points
to review and training materials." In addition, there are links to other
web sites and listservs relating to the topics in the Tool Box.

on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practices
Resource for leaders from organizations and agencies working to improve "the
relevance of public health education to the demands of public health in the
practice sector." Site provides information on linkage activities, meetings,
projects and membership.

The LGEAN "is a 'first-stop shop' providing environmental management, planning,
and regulatory information for local government elected and appointed officials,

quarterly newsletter and houses links to a resource organization database.

Healthy Cities Foundation (IHCF)
These pages are available in five languages--English, French, Japanese,
Portuguese, and Spanish. The mission of the IHCF is to "facilitate linkages
among people, issues and resources in order to support the development of Healthy
Cities initiatives." The IHCF will link people, organizations, and networks
currently working to advance Healthy City goals and provide linkages with others
dealing with significant and related areas of work." The Foundation site
contains links to their programs as well as a searchable database for information
on Healthy Cities.

Although the Center's geographical range is to serve Washington cities and counties,
this site provides ample local government resources for non-Washington cities

Association of Counties (NACo)
NACo "represents county governments, acts as a liaison with other levels
of government, works to improve public understanding of counties, serves as
a national advocate for counties and provides them with resources to help them
find innovative methods to meet the challenges they face."

Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
NACCHO "is a nonprofit membership organization serving all of the nearly
3,000 local health departments nationwide. NACCHO provides education, information,
research and technical assistance to local health departments and facilitates
partnerships among local, state, and federal agencies in order to promote and
strengthen public health." Their site contains links to NACCHO programs,
including community assessment tools such as APEXPH (Assessment Protocol
for Excellence in Public Health) and their new community health improvement
tool: Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership (MAPP).

NALGEP is a professional organization that brings together "local environmental
officials to network and share information on innovative environmental practices,
conduct environmental policy projects, promote environmental training and education

NATaT's purpose is "to strengthen the effectiveness of town and township

Public Health Leadership Development Network
These state and regional leadership programs, supported through a cooperative
agreement from the CDC, the Association of Schools of Public Health, and St.
Louis University School of Public Health, "are dedicated to meet the local
grassroots needs by developing and enhancing individual and organizational leadership
and management for improving and promoting the health of commodities."

PeriStats
PeriStats is an interactive perinatal data resource providing maternal, infant
and child health-related data at the state-level and for many indicators at
the county-level. The PeriStats database uses data compiled from the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including the National Center for
Health Statistics (NCHS), the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention
and Health Promotion, and the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention,
the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Health Resources

USCM is "the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations
