Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy
The Academy resulted for the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research merging. "The Academy provides a professional home and technical assistance resource for researchers and policy professionals. Committed to the vision of improving health and health care by generating new knowledge and moving knowledge into action, the Academy seeks to stimulate the development, understanding, and use of the best available health services research and health policy information by public and private decision makers." The site contains information on their state coverage initiatives, networking for rural health, publications and other resources.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
The goals of this DHHS agency are to: "support improvements in health outcomes; strengthen quality measurements and improvements; and to identify strategies to improve access, foster appropriate use and reduce unnecessary expenditures." The site contains information on issues of mental health; rural health; markets; healthcare costs; elderly issues; and other policy related information. Information is also available in Spanish.

Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI)
AGI "protects the reproductive choices of all women and men in the United States and throughout the world." The web site contains links to information on prevention & contraception; STDs, law & public policy; youth issues and sexual behavior.

Alpha Center
Health policy center helping "public and private sector clients respond to health care challenges by providing the essential keys to policy-making: objective information, insightful analysis, and expert strategic planning and program management." The site contains links for state health policy, national programs and policy resources.

The Center for Health Administration Studies
Housed at the University of Chicago, the Center "conducts research for the improvement of health services delivery to vulnerable populations, particularly in urban settings. It also conducts research in: Aging and Health Services; Health Services Management; Health Care Workforce; Medicaid and Medicare; Maternal and Child Health; Urban Health Policy; and Evaluation Studies. This resource has listing of other health related links which include administration programs, journals, professional associations, and agencies.

Center for Health Improvement (CHI)
CHI, formerly the California Center for Health Improvement, is a resource for policy-makers and community residents on effective policy interventions to improve population health. CHI is committed to improving the health of the public by disseminating objective, accurate, and easily understood information about community health and healthcare issues and policies to wide and diverse audiences." Their site contains links to publications, a database of policy ideas and links to various topics.

Center for Impact Research (CIR)
The CIR is a not-for-profit organization that works towards elimination of poverty through grassroots research aimed at identifying innovative policy strategies better reflecting low-income persons' needs. The site contains links to policy centers, publication, information on conferences and other poverty-related resources.

Center for Injury Research and Policy
The Center's mission "is to use a public health approach to understand injuries and reduce their occurrence, severity and consequence." Table of Contents contains links to publication; faculty and staff; current research; education and training; community services; and links to other sites.

Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC)
HSC "is a nonpartisan policy research organization that designs and conducts studies focused on the US health care system to inform the thinking and decisions of policy makers in government and private industry. In addition to this applied use, HSC studies contribute more broadly to the body of health care policy research that enables decision makers to understand change and the national and local market forces driving that change. "

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
The Center is "a nonpartisan research organization and policy institute that conducts research and analysis on a range of government policies and programs with an emphasis on those affecting low- and moderate-income people." This searchable site contains links to publications (including, state fiscal policies, state safety nets, the federal budget, poverty & income), reports, and a state policy documentation project.

Child Welfare League of America (CWLA)
The CWLA's web site offers information on their programs that supports their mission "to develop and promote policies and programs to protect America's children and strengthen America's families." The site has links to advocacy, publications, conferences & training, and consultation services. In addition, there is information on each of their programs, including: adolescent pregnancy prevention and parenting, health care, HIV/AIDS, the Managed Care Institute, housing and homelessness, chemical dependency, positive youth development, and family-centered practice.

Committee on Health Politics
A related organization of the American Political Science Association, the Committee is a group of social scientists with a "strong professional interest in health policy issues." The site contains links to health policy research.

Community Voices
Community Voices is an initiative from W.K. Kellogg Foundation that contains information on national health policy and efforts of local communities to improve health care access and quality. There are reports on minority health initiatives, oral health, youth violence, mental health and issues related to health care access. The site features monthly articles by prominent scholars and politicians as well as serves as a gateway to other important health and nonprofit web sites.

Council of State Governments (CSG)
"CSG helps states increase efficiency by identifying the best new and creative approaches to significant state problems in our Innovations Awards. Our information products are full of useful and practical policy solutions. In addition, CSG draws upon experts in the states, and marshals them as consultants to help sister states in need of services. And CSG's leadership training helps state officials enhance their skills in managing strategic change."

Drug Policy Alliance (DPA)
The Lindesmith Center and Drug Policy Foundation merged with the objective of building a national drug policy reform movement and has changed its name to Drug Policy Alliance. Drug Policy Alliance is the nation's leading organization working to end the war on drugs and promote new drug policies based on common sense, science, public health and human rights.

Duke Health Policy CyberExchange
Outstanding site for information about health law, policy and management.

Electronic Policy Network
Network of organizations whose work tackles topics ranging from civic participation to welfare reform, health care policy to the environment, education to Social Security. See also their specific link to their health care site at Idea Central: Health.

The Forums Institute
Forums Institute for Public Policy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to promoting sound public policymaking in the states through education, communication and research. Its programs provide: balanced, timely information; off-the-record dialogue; facilitated, participant-driven discussion; networking across agencies and branches of government. The website contains links to the policy forum, issue briefs, leadership training, coaching for nonprofit boards and program development for public and private sector groups.

Health Poll Search
Health Poll Search is a searchable archive of public opinion questions on health issues that allows users to know what Americans think about health issues, as well as what Americans have thought about health issues over time. Health Poll Search is the result of a partnership between the Kaiser Family Foundation and The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at the University of Connecticut. The Roper Center houses an archive of more than 350,000 public opinion questions dating back to 1935.
The Health Poll Search archive covers 29 topics and more than 300 subtopics, and holds more than 60,000 questions on health issues from health care surveys that have included questions on health. These questions provide information on public perceptions of HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, health policy and health reform, Medicare and Medicaid, women's health, the uninsured, minority health, and children's health. Response percentages and source information are provided for all questions.

Health Policy Coach
Health Policy Coach is part of the California Center for Health Improvement (CCHI). The Coach "is a resource for people seeking to improve community health through prevention-focused policy change. The site provides peer-reviewed, searchable health policies and "how-to" information and coaching resources of individuals and groups interested in effecting policy change in their communities." Policies include such topics as child care, tobacco, firearms, environmental toxins, illegal drugs, alcohol, and infectious disease.

Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR)
This policy research organization is dedicated to informing and stimulating the debate on public policy issues of critical important to women and their families. IWPR focuses on issues of poverty and welfare, employment and earnings, work and family issues, the economic and social aspects of health car and domestic violence, and women's civic and political participation.

KaiserNetwork.org
KaiserNetwork.org provides up-to-date information on health policy issues. They have daily reports on health policy, HIV/AIDS, and reproductive health; a health poll search section; web casts of various programs or reports; an e-mail notification services and state health facts online.

Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI)
LDI is a formal cooperative between the University of Pennsylvania's schools of medicine, business, nursing and dental medicine. "LDI works to improve the health of the public through multidisciplinary studies on the medical, economic, social and ethical issues that influence how health care is organized, financed managed, and delivered."

Lister Hill Center for Health Policy
The Lister Hill Center, located at the School of Public Health of the University of Alabama, Birmingham, facilitates the conduct and dissemination of health policy research. Topics of interest at the Center are: health care markets and managed care; maternal and child health; management in public organization; and clinical health services research.

National Academy for State Health Policy
The web site of the National Academy for State Health Policy was established "to disseminate information designed to assist states in the development of practical, innovative solutions to complex health policy issues."

National Center for Policy Research for Women and Families (CPR)
The CPR "promotes the health and well-being of women and families by using objective, research-based information to encourage new, more effective programs and policies." The site contains links to social security, children's health, breast cancer, poverty & welfare, violence, women's health, and work & family.

National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL): Health
NOTE: This link will take you to the NCSL Health page after you sign in as a public user. Once at the Health site, there are numerous program descriptions, a health topic index, state health forum, health policy tracking service, federal health policy and many links to current issues.

National Women's Law Center
The Center "protects and advances the progress of women and girls at work, in school and in virtually every aspect of their lives." They address a variety of issues, including health, child & family support, employment, education. The section on health contains a health report card for women, information on reproductive rights, and information about the omission of women from health insurance protections, preventive health programs and research priorities. There is also state and local information in their report "Making the Grade on Women's Health: A National and State-by-State Report Card."

Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP)
The ORHP "promotes better health care service in rural America. It informs the Department of Health and Human Services on matters affecting rural hospitals, health care, coordinates activities within the department that are related to rural health care, maintains a national information clearing house. The Office works both within government at federal, state and local levels, and with the private sector to seek solution to rural health care problems."

Pew Charitable Trusts
The Pew Charitable Trusts sponsor research on the environment, public policy, education, health & human services, culture, and religion. The site has links to grant information and their program reports.

Policy Information Exchange (PIE)Online
PIE Online is "a service of the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, a leading center for policy, research, and training. PIE also provides access to the resources and services of one of the largest mental health libraries in the United States." The site contains links to the library as well as conference calendar, mental health related links, points of interest, and a searchable database.

Public Health Management & Policy
Public Health Management & Policy is an electronic textbook written by MPH students at Case Western Reserve University.

Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI)
"The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) conducts policy-relevant research and facilitates public dialogue to assist policy makers in understanding the rural impacts of public policies and programs." Their site contains links to programs, publications, and rural health resources.

State Action
Part of the Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA), this site contains information regarding state issues (including health & safety, the environment, managed care, and mental health). There are links to state of the state reports that compare various state statistics with the national average.

State Legislative Information - Nutrition & Physical Activity
This link will take you to the CDC Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity's Searchable Database that contains legislative bill information from all 50 states related to specific topics and subtopics. The database contains information from 2001 and is updated quarterly. The database is a joint project between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Conference of State Legislatures.

State Line
Stateline.org is "your source for state news." The site contains issue specific or state specific links in addition to articles. In addition, one can register to receive news alerts regarding a particular issue via e-mail.

UCLA Center for Health Policy Research
The UCLA Center for Health Policy Research applies the extensive expertise of faculty and researchers from UCLA's leading professional schools and academic departments to meet the needs of the nation, states, and local communities for health policy-related research and information. The Center conducts research on national, state, and local health policy issues, provides public service to policy makers and community leaders, and offers educational opportunities for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The research, service, and education programs of the Center emphasize a community-and population-based perspective to improve health outcomes. This perspective focuses on: the health status of population groups, systems of health care, and community-based interventions to prevent disease and promote health. The Center's studies focus on the health needs of communities and populations that are at risk for adverse health conditions or are under-served by the health system.

Urban Institute
The Urban Institute's goals are "to sharpen thinking about society's problems and efforts to solve them, improve government decision and their implementation, and increase citizens' awareness about important public choices." Topic links include: elderly, at-risk teens, social security, American cities, child care, the working poor, Social Security and the homeless.

Women in Government
The purpose of this bipartisan, nonprofit education association of elected and appointed women in state government, is "to enhance the leadership role of women policy makers by providing issue education and leadership training." One of their issues is The Women's Health Care Platform, a plan to improve health care for women.
