Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy
The Academy resulted for the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research merging. "The Academy provides a professional home and technical assistance resource for researchers and policy professionals. Committed to the vision of improving health and health care by generating new knowledge and moving knowledge into action, the Academy seeks to stimulate the development, understanding, and use of the best available health services research and health policy information by public and private decision makers." The site contains information on their state coverage initiatives, networking for rural health, publications and other resources.

Alpha Center
Health policy center helping "public and private sector clients respond to health care challenges by providing the essential keys to policy-making: objective information, insightful analysis, and expert strategic planning and program management." The site contains links for state health policy, national programs and policy resources.

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)
Organization for leaders of State and Territorial health agencies that works collectively to formulate and influence national health policy and to develop and implement state programs and policies to promote health and prevent illness and disability and to improve quality of life.

Council of State Governments (CSG)

And CSG's leadership training helps state officials enhance their skills in managing strategic change."

Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practices
Resource for leaders from organizations and agencies working to improve "the relevance of public health education to the demands of public health in the practice sector." Site provides information on linkage activities, meetings, projects and membership.

Outstanding site for information about health law, policy and management.

Families USA
Families USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated "to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health and long-term care for all Americans." Web site contains information on Medicare, Medicaid, children's health, uninsured populations, legislative action, web health links and state-by-state resources. It is an outstanding source of resources on health issues.

Gold & Green
The Green & Gold report is an annual report which "finds that states with the highest environmental grades also boast the best economics--debunking the 'jobs vs. the environment' myth." In addition to the report, the Institute for Southern Studies, which conducts the research, offers information and links to indicator reports, trends, maps and individual state reports.

E. Government
This is a list of governmental resources and anything related to law making. Topics range from national, state and local government links to Washington contacts, issues, politics and organizations.

Health Guide USA
Health Guide USA is a gateway to online health information sources. The site contains links to: federal agencies, more than 400 state government agencies and programs involved in health matters, almost 1,000 local health departments, over 150 state physician, hospital and dental associations or societies, 47 leading medical libraries, over 300 teaching hospitals, more than 150 national health advocacy organizations and a
variety of resources on health conditions, clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, and much more .

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
"The HRSA directs national health programs that improve the nation's health by assuring equitable access to comprehensive, quality health care for all." Their programs include: improving the lives of persons with HIV/AIDS, providing primary healthcare to medically under-served people, serving women and children through State programs and training health personnel for jobs in under-served communities.

Municipal Research & Services Center of Washington (MRSC)
Although the Center's geographical range is to serve Washington cities and counties, this site provides ample local government resources for non-Washington cities and counties. There are subject indexes linked to additional resources; links to other government (besides Washington) sites; and news.

National Academy for State Health Policy
The web site of the National Academy for State Health Policy was established "to disseminate information designed to assist states in the development of practical, innovative solutions to complex health policy issues."

National Association of State Information Resource Executives (NASIRE)
This is an organization for Chief Information Officers for the State. NASIRE's mission is to "shape national IT [information technology] policy through collaborative partnerships, information sharing and knowledge transfer across jurisdictional and functional boundaries."

National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL): Health
NOTE: This link will take you to the NCSL Health page after you sign in as a public user. Once at the Health site, there are numerous program descriptions, a health topic index, state health forum, health policy tracking service, federal health policy and many links to current issues.

National Public Health Leadership Development Network
These state and regional leadership programs, supported through a cooperative agreement from the CDC, the Association of Schools of Public Health, and St. Louis University School of Public Health, "are dedicated to meet the local grassroots needs by developing and enhancing individual and organizational leadership and management for improving and promoting the health of commodities." The site provides links to their programs, strategies & resources, news & issues, network formation, and related practice links.

National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) State Exchange
This site, from the CDC, allows users to "access and share information on state tobacco control programs, training, documents and activities." There is a calendar of events, state information, and are links for states to register to exchange documents and report control activities.

PeriStats
PeriStats is an interactive perinatal data resource providing maternal, infant and child health-related data at the state-level and for many indicators at the county-level. The PeriStats database uses data compiled from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, and the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Governors Association (NGA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the March of Dimes.

Registry of State-Level Efforts to Integrate Health Information
This is a resource of information regarding state information integration projects. The registry is a "central source for researching the types of integration activities states are pursuing. In addition, the registry will facilitate communication among state regarding data integration initiatives and related data policy activities."

State Action
Part of the Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA), this site contains information regarding state issues (including health & safety, the environment, managed care, and mental health). There are links to state of the state reports that compare various state statistics with the national average.

This is a great site for state and local government information. There are links to state governments, federal resources, professional associations/organizations, and other related links.

State Coverage Initiatives (SCI)
SCI "is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-sponsored program aimed at improving the practical capabilities of state governments to: plan, execute, and sustain health care coverage expansions to the previously uninsured; plan, execute, and sustain mechanisms to improve the availability or affordability of health care coverage or access; and overcome intervening obstacles to design, implement, and sustain coverage expansions to improve the availability or affordability of coverage." The site contains links to tools, a coverage matrix, publications and grants.

State Government Gateway Sites
This site, part of Duke University's Center for Health Policy, Law and Management, provides a links to key state health agencies and information about the site. Very useful page for state related resources.

State Issues from the National Governor's Association
This site contains a listing of state issues addressed by the National Governor's Association, including health insurance trends, maternal and child health, environmental concerns, etc.

State Line
Stateline.org is "your source for state news." The site contains issue specific or state specific links in addition to articles. In addition, one can register to receive news alerts regarding a particular issue via e-mail.

State Health Profile
This report from the CDC describes specific health status indicators for each state. It also presents some demographic information, prevention and control efforts and how CDC's funds are distributed throughout the country.

State Legislative Information - Nutrition & Physical Activity
This link will take you to the CDC Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity's Searchable Database that contains legislative bill information from all 50 states related to specific topics and subtopics. The database contains information from 2001 and is updated quarterly. The database is a joint project between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The Trust for America's Health (TFAH)
TFAH is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect the health and safety of all communities, especially those most at risk of environmental and other public health threats. Their goal is to strengthen the nation's public health system through science-based research, community partnerships, education, and advocacy. The site contains links to state tracking factsheets, issues & campaigns, research & resources, and a community health forum.
